Myths to Avoid in Blackjack

Myths are part and parcel of any gambling game. They are so many of them and more often than not, it is hard to differentiate them from the truth or fantasy. Here are some myths that have been linked to blackjack for quite some time and it is something that every blackjack player should be wary of:

Myth 1: Get as close to 21 as one can. Many people try to follow this and end up losing money because they believe that the closer to 21 they are, the better the chances are of winning. One should remember that one is playing against the dealer's hand, not the score of 21. The dealer has a specific score that they are told to stop at (usually 21). If one can see that and their hand is stronger, then they should stop from going further. One should not be fooled by the adage of getting close to 21.

Myth 2: Playing against terrible players can cause one to lose. It is true that there are stupid players that may lose, it is true that it had no bearing on another's hand. It is all part of the game of chance and it does not mean stupid players draw in stupid or bad cards. Everyone gets their bad deal every now and then. Even if the most stupid or dumbest players have been in the same table, it would not make a difference if the cards were dealt the way they are .

Myth 3: Blackjack players should take out insurance. Using the insurance option is a very foolish option to use. Paying for insurance means paying up to 13 percent on every bet made so instead of reaping rewards, the winnings and losses are costing a large percentage per bet. Unless one is really paranoid and can afford to waste some more cash, go ahead.

Myth 4. The dealer makes the wins. This is so untrue. The dealer has no vested interest in the game and can only deal the cards in a prescribed manner. They cannot even determine the direction of the deal and cannot choose cards from the deck. They can only offer advice but when the game starts they can only follow house rules.

Myth 5. Entering the in the middle of the game is extreme bad luck. This is another untrue story. Players have the right to enter the game but in between sets. One cannot just barge in and it is never bad luck or causes a chain of bad luck to the players currently in the game. Again, it is the cards that determine the set, not the people who play in it.

Myth 6: One is going to win soon. This is an age old myth. Just because the dealer has won several hands in a row means that the player will win anytime soon. Laws of chance do not mean that the player would win something or get a change in the luck after the house has most of the edge.

Myths are difficult to dispose of especially when the rest of the gambling world seems to follow them almost religiously. One should look at the myths then make their own judgements and play.
